Amarant 

Amarant (fr. bois violet; ang. purpleheart) – gatunek drewna pozyskiwany z drzew z rodzaju Peltogyne (plemię Detarieae), występujących w Ameryce Środkowej i Południowej. Drewno jest ciężkie i bardzo twarde, a jednocześnie podatne na obróbkę. Dobrze skrawa się na forniry, a jego dodatkowym atutem jest dekoracyjne usłojenie.

Kolor świeżo ściętego drewna amarant początkowo jest matowo-szary. Pod wpływem światła drewno nabiera charakterystycznego fioletowo-bakłażanowego odcienia. Wraz z upływem czasu i działaniem promieniowania UV może przybrać nawet ciemny brąz z nutą fioletu.

Aby zatrzymać ten proces, do wykończenia należy użyć preparatów ograniczających przenikanie promieniowania UV.

Amaranth (Purpleheart)

Amaranth (Fr. bois violet; Eng. purpleheart) is a type of wood obtained from trees of the genus Peltogyne (tribe Detarieae) found in Central and South America. The wood is heavy and very hard, yet still workable and suitable for processing. It machines well into veneers, and its additional advantage is its decorative grain pattern.

The color of freshly cut amaranth wood is initially dull gray. Under the influence of light, the wood develops its characteristic violet–eggplant hue. Over time and with exposure to UV radiation, it may even turn dark brown with a hint of purple.

To prevent this process, UV-blocking finishing products should be used.
